Biography Peter Greenhalf “ I have been taking photographs since I was eight years old” and now, after many years of experience including thirty years of commercial and advertising, Peter Greenhalf is the master of traditional methods of photography , hand -printing and hand-toning. He produces extraordinary photographs which captures the mystery and power of British landscapes, both ancient and modern. “ I use a time-honoured method of Gelatin- Silver hand printing. Each image is then treated with gold, selenium and sepia toners to add life and depth.” Peter also processes his own film on order to maintain complete control and where possible, prints on fibre-based paper to ensure each image is of archival quality. He works intuitively in the dark room, a slow process with individual prints taking anything up to four days to complete.”Putting a print through so many toners can be unpredictable, but I achieve an end result which is totally unlike typical commercial printing.” And of course the painstaking process means that each print is totally unique. Much of Peter’s work is informed by his deep love of the Sussex countryside and by the ancient and sacred sites of Britain he has been drawn to since those early days of childhood. “My images are a personal view of these timeless and significant sites and and desire to share these extraordinary, magical places with others.” |
