Biography Gill Copeland‘s professional career in photography has spanned over 25 years. “I knew I wanted to be a photographer, but growing up in Sheffield in the 60’s and 70’s I knew it wouldn’t be easy to get into.” But after qualifying with a HND in photography in 1984, she became a travel photographer, travelled widely for several years and later set up her own studio in London. It was during this time that she won numerous national awards for excellence in photographic portraits. “The skill in photographing people is to capture that moment when their true character emerges.” 12 years ago Gill moved to Sussex and into the field of fine art photography. ”I love working with light, how its colours and intensities can shape an image into something quite unique.” Today Gill is one of the countries leading commercial fine art photographers. She is the founder of several galleries and is the current director of the Brighton Fishing Quarter Gallery. Her photographic work is now exhibited and collected internationally. Much of her award winning work captures the windswept, weather beaten appeal of the British weekend on the coast and her unique style is instantly recognisable. |
